With heater running all night, we awoke next morning to a warm comfortable motorhome. That was until I opened the door and stepped outside onto a layer of lovely white fresh snow, and the temperature touching around minus three degrees. Even though it was so cold, the sun was shining bright causing the snow to melt very quickly.

We made our way to Venice - the most romantic city, I do remember being very cold and windy. we had to catch a water taxi into the main island and we caught it with the other tour group so it was good to catch up, the ride was a little bumpy. We arrived and went straight to St Mark's Square where we had little tour and info session.

The River Aquarium is located in Mora, Portugal. Settled in the Ecological Wild Park of Gameiro, the structure stands admist a field of cork and olive trees. The building was devised as a compact and monolithic volume with a pitched shelter of thin white pre-cast concrete porticos with single spans of 33 metres, evoking the profile of the canonical Alentejo whitewash barns known as “montes”.

Since we arrived in London, it has been unseasonably cold and rainy. I was exhilarating to see a blue sunny sky on the day we traveled through country roads to see the famous Stonehenge. I read about this prehistoric monument in books. I watched it on the Discovery channel. Finally, I saw the Stonehenge with my own eyes.

Life changed dramatically in winter 2007. The only way to escape was to run far far away from home as fast as I could. I booked the flight to Stockholm and took off a week later. My best friend of 20+ years was waiting at Arlanda airport when I landed. I spend several days in Stockholm wandering around in this unfamiliar city.

Kuwait is an Independent Arab Emirate situated at the head of the Persian Gulf, sandwiched between Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Most of the country is a dry, barren desert, with the exception of a few basins that occasionally catch rainwater. Commercial fishing on the Gulf is important to the economy, but not nearly as important as the country’s chief industry: OIL. Kuwait takes its name from the Arabic word kut, meaning “fort” and is also the name of the capital.

Following our caving adventure, we were warned of an impending weather bomb; the "largest storm" to hit NZ in "10 years". We were excited. Much to our disappointment, we missed the eye and only encountered dreadful rain throughout our 2 hour drive towards Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo is apparently the largest freshwater lake in the southern hemisphere - our plans for sky diving over this lake.

It seems like everybody I’ve talked to recently wants to vent about the high price of travel. Many friends are traveling within California this summer, but certainly not using the word “staycation.” So, what should you do if you don’t want to give up a trip to Europe? If Susan Spano’s Postcards From Rome have you day dreaming about good ol’ Italia, consider a package with Central Holidays.
