Since its dedication to public worship in December 1986, the temple has seen millions of people cross its threshold, making it one of the most visited edifices in India.

As word about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai filters in, I’m glad to say that we’re not in the city or anywhere close to it, but I’m pretty shocked nevertheless. We’re in Agra now, heading for Varanasi tonight, and then spending most of the rest of our time in India in two states - Sikkhim and Orissa - that don’t see many tourists and are unlikely to be targeted.

“You’re more likely to get struck by lightning than to be a victim of terrorism at a hotel,” says Bruce McIndoe, chief executive of IJet Intelligent Risk Systems, a travel security company in Annapolis, Md., that works with more than 500 businesses. Your far greater risk is fire, he said in an interview today. A dozen of McIndoe’s clients had a brush with both at the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, one of the hotels hit by terrorist attacks and explosions today (Nov. 26) in Mumbai, India.

The main idea of coming to bangalore was too see the one day between india and england. The train journey here was 15 hours of pure indian madness, we didnt book the express train which took only 8 hours we went local style stopping at which felt like every station in karnataka or anywhere else they felt like stopping. Arrived early in the morning and went straight to the stadium. Where we picked up some black market tickets for 1500 ruppees each. Found a room about 2mins walk from stadium and 10 minutes city centre for 600 rupees so 300 each not to bad!!

Why do Americans have lawns? Should they despise walking from porch or stoop to Chevy or mailbox on weed or soil? Must that void between abode and avenue be filled−or could the distance lie bare like the pitchy trail of aphelion? Feign feral! If a moat be dug then of course swamp the ditch turbid. Sneering crocodiles sliding under brambles like rusty fishhooks. It is perfectly possible to fall hard in love in a panic. A treasure hunt is greatest just before it is found.

The lights dimmed on the Diwali holiday of the Khowalas on Wednesday, as the weary family of four headed from Mumbai to Deoghar waited for hours at Howrah station. Niraj Khowala, who works in a private bank in Mumbai, reached Calcutta on Wednesday morning with his wife and two children to take the Howrah-Patna Janshatabdi Express. “We were going to my ancestral house in Deoghar where we celebrate Diwali every year,” said Khowala.

In photos, the Taj usually looks rather cheesy. It's amazing in person. I had to go to the dentist in Agra. It turned out to be a fairly pleasant experience, cost me only 100 rupees, plus 100 rupees at the chemist shop, and releaved the problem.

The Taj Lake Palace, our hotel, is by far the nicest hotel I've been to, and one of the prettiest buildings I have ever entered. It was literally the summer palace and guest house of the maharajas, and is built in the middle of a lake -- rather, the lake was built around the palace.

"It's definitely altered my perspective. I'm more aware of environmental issues and how they can affect people in poorer countries," she said. The 24-year-old from Sheldon in Birmingham was among the first of a group of 15 volunteers to participate in a new scheme called Platform 2. This £10m project helps people aged 18 to 25 to do 10 weeks' work in various countries.

Pushkar is sublime. Just outside of Sunset Cafe, I sit on a set of steps that lead directly into the bathing ghats and glistening waters of Pushkar Lake. The sun is just about to set, and a handful of onlookers have gathered to watch. Temple bells clang in the distance as the faithful offer up prayers and blessings to their Hindu gods. A drummer begins to play somewhere behind me. Maracas pick up the beat.
